Too trite? Maybe it is a bit, but, that doesn't make it any less true.

So, what does this have to do with web design? Well, we can tell you from experience that there are few times where 'just being yourself' suddenly becomes harder to do than when you're put in the position of representing yourself to an entire world full of strangers. It doesn't matter whether you're trying to encapsulate your vision in a single symbol or demonstrate your je ne sais quoi in 500 words or less - it ain't easy to do and it's all too easy to cop out and try to be somebody else.
